5 Quirky Places to Visit in Pittsburgh

Updated: Jan 31, 2021

If you are local to the Pittsburgh area and just want to drive around a d find some fun and quirky places to visit or if you are looking for something unusual to see, then this article is for you.

This weekend we went for a drive around the Pittsburgh area and found some quirky gems around.

1. The Steepest Street in the Continental USA - Canton Ave

Even my kids wanted to run up the street because, hey, why not? This is by a residential area, so drive up the street or park carefully and then walk by. Tip: As you can see in the photo, there are steps if you feel unsafe walking up or down the street.

2. Allegheny Cemetery and the Shark Tombstone

This cemetery has areas that look like a mini castle. It is a really big place, so you may want to drive around or go for a quirky walk or jog. You may even find the quirky site of a shark tombstone located in section 26 (it has parking spots right in front of it).

3. Magneto Mural

This mural is so clever, it covers a metal scrap place and it is awesome! It is just by the Clemente Museum (from my other posts) near Lawrencevill in Pittsburgo. Tip: you must go across the street to truly appreciate the mural.

4. Roslyn Place - Last Wood Block Paving Road in Pittsburgh

A small residential wood paved street in Shadyside that is still standing and looking beautiful. This is only one of the few wood block roads left in the world. This one dates back from 1924.

5. Beechview Seldom Seen Greenway - a "hidden" green area just outside the city. A beautiful trail just outside the city. It has a small parking by the salt dome. I personally have driven by this place countless of times and never knew it was here until recently. Beautiful brick arch and it could be a pretty easy walk (unless u want to climb and explore) and lots of graffitis.
