No matter if I travel alone or with my kids, I always have them in my mind. If I travel without them (which i have done many times), I try to leave activities at home for them so they know I think of them often. If I travel with them, then I try to think of fun ideas to keep them engaged the entire time. For the Atlantis Bahamas trip, I think there is a lot to do for the kids, so this time, I want to create a bucket list like a "scavenger hunt" to try to make them explore all the options they will have. I do not want them to just do the same activity for the entire time while at the hotel and miss some of the fun areas/events we will have. I have never been to Atlantis, so this bucket list took a little bit of research. (Update: now that I am back from this trip, the resort has a bucket list too that was quite similar to my bucket list)
My kids are 5 and 10. Therefore, for the items that the 5 year old may not be able to do, the instruction for her was to make sure an adult in her family does the activity for her to cross it off. ;-)
Some descriptions of my thinking behind each item (we have never been to Atlantis before):
- Beach -> we cannot go to the Bahamas and not visit the beach (my 5 year old loves loves loves sand castles, it needs to be added to the list!)
- Rope bridge -> cute spot for some fun photos
- Manta rays -> I want my kids to see all the sea animals (in general) and learn a bit about them
- Dolphins -> at the very least, we want to see some dolphins from the distance (my photo was not very good, so I did not add it)
- Sharks -> see sharks (different kinds)
- Spa -> my kids have been begging me to do this. (Update: This is the only one we did not do but will do very soon on our upcoming trip in a month)
- Leap of faith -> crazy fun water slide (need to add our videos)
- The dig -> marine life exhibit - hoping we can cross off other items with this one too
- Ice cream -> how we can go on vacations as a family and not have ice cream, right? (photo taken at Ben & Jerry's)
- Sleep Nice -> we have such busy schedules so let's enjoy a nice sleep and not rush for at least a morning
- Poseidon Throne -> photo area
- Cypselurus Fountain -> let's explore the hotel
- Pegasus Fountain -> more explorations
- Hibiscus Lagoon -> underwater world - watch the feeding
- Cenote Cave Slide -> plunge down the Abyss in the power tower (I need to add our videos still)
- Dance and play games by the Pool -> some days they have DJs and games at the pools, let's have some fun!
- Dinner -> family time together to decompress, have a conversation and enjoy each other (Photo taken at Fish)
- Frozen Drink -> can we get one with an "umbrella" please? (Update: I did not get an umbrella ;-) )
- Predator Lagoon -> explore sharks and cross-off more than one item with this one
- Lazy River & Rapid River -> super fun for the whole family, so this is a must for us!
Bonus one: Sacred Space - memorial of sculptures made out of wood from Hurricane Matthew in 2016
