Coping with Coronavirus Anxiety and the"No Travel" Recommendation

Updated: Jan 4, 2021

Travel restriction was the very first action to "flattening the curve" after the pandemic hit us this year (2020). We moved to a new phase (early summer) in many states and many countries, where businesses started to re-open. Of course, my mind is immediately thinking: "where am I going next?", "how can I plan my next trip?"...

The reality after many months of this pandemic is that people are mostly working at home when possible, others without a job, kids took online school (with an uncertain plan for the upcoming school year), barely no day cares fully open, no summer camps, lots of cleaning and cooking at home (more than usual), crazy weather...well, the anxiety starts to creep in a little (or a lot). On top of all of that, we cannot travel internationally (at least from the US)? What? This new normal, is not normal at all! However, we truly are all in it together! It is not just me, or just you, or just Americans, it is in fact, all of us!

So what is keeping me sane? Well, certainly dreaming about our previous travel experiences and going through my old photos with family and friends. Trying to enjoy the family all under the same roof at all times and using our imagination to come up with creative ideas to stay entertained. Also, planning future trips with this new normal and using it as a coping mechanism.

I had to cancel some trips during this Covid-19 (just like many of you), and the airlines and the hotels were very flexible with my cancellations. So planning for futaure trips is absolutely fine as long as we all keep in mind that we need to be flexible! If people can get over the economic uncertainly of the time and are willing to spend some money on travel, I think this will give people a reason to look towards the future!

I personally do not have plans to fly anytime soon but I hope to go on some road-trips with my girls soon. Having kids brings the anxiety to a whole different level. However, it helps to think of innovative ideas to still go out and create new experiences for my family and myself. We are in this together and let's stay safe and healthy!

(Here are some examples of the home fun to keep us sane - chalk art and photography are two of my favorite hobbies during this quarantine!)
