One Day At Philadelphia During The Wintertime

Philadelphia has such amazing history behind their city and sites. We just spend one full day at Philadelphia with my two kids (7 and 12) and my parents (in their 70s). So here is what we did, which was kid friendly and also elderly friendly (as long as they can walk).

Most of our choices were pretty much free, with the exception of buying the food and paying for parking for the Christmas Village at a peak time.

1. Genos vs Pats

We love philly-cheesesteaks so we had to try both to compare them (we have done this every time we visit Philly). If you are wondering which one is better, well it depends on your taste buds and preferences. We were a group of 6 and we did not have consensus. If you visit Philadelphia, I recommend you try both since they are in front of each other.

2. Liberty Bell (free entrance, no ticket required)

I love the Liberty Bell! This is a quick visit and it is free to enter. This was my parents first time in this city, so of course we had to visit the Bell! Tip: The Bell is just across the street from Independence Hall, so make sure you visit both!

3. Independence Hall (free entrance but need to reserve)

This is a location with just so much history and we could say this is the birthplace of America. The Declaration of Independence and Constitution were created and signed in this building. Beautiful building but even better for the history behind it!

4. Rocky Steps (Museum of Art steps - 72 steps to be exact and steps open to the public).

This was the first time my kids had been to the steps, so we explained why so many people were running up and putting their hands up at the top. Of course, they ended up doing it too!

5. Elfreth's Alley (free to walk around to see it - do not disturb the people who live there).

This alley is one of my favorite spots in the city. I just love how cute this alley is!!! It is a great example of an early American structure. It just brings my mind back to those days and how much we have evolved as a country and as a society! Please, be aware that people still live in the alley, so be respectful to their properties and to the privacy of others!

6. Love Park for the Love Sign (Christmas Village during the Holidays season - free to enter)

We wanted a photo with the LOVE sign and then realized they do a charming Christmas Village in the park during the Holidays. It was free to enter but we paid for parking across the street since my parents cannot walk super long distances. Live music, lots of cute Christmas shops and hot cocoa for people like us (obsessed with hot cocoa in the winter).
