What to do in Gettysburg for the first time if spending a few hours there? Bookmark this for your future trip!

  • Follow the Auto Tour (it took us around 3 hours with all stops)

We stopped almost at each major auto marker. Be aware there are two of them closed at the moment, so follow the detour. Listen to the audio or video from the National Park Service website (there are also plenty of YouTube videos available).

  • Definitely stop at #12 (Pennsylvania Memorial) and #16 (National Cemetery) of the Auto Tour even if you don’t follow all the stops.

  • Visit the Gettysburg Museum & Visitor Center

🇺🇸 Read the Gettysburg Address - you can find it in many places (stop 12, 16, museum, or even online!)

  • Have a meal (many options) - we ate at "Gettysburger" and the people were really friendly. Pay the meter if you park on the street, because we saw plenty of people with tickets.

✏️📚 Learn history, teach the kids as much as you can, & Have fun!

.

Let us know if you did anything else that we should do during our time!

Here is the auto tour map from the official nps page (screenshot below from their webpage - you can get maps at stop 1 or at the visitors center ): https://www.nps.gov/gett/learn/historyculture/auto-tour-detour.htm
